Four police personnel
disappeared in landslide
Chitwan, June 23: The landslide occurred nearby Kalikhola along the Narayangarh-Muglin road section last night buried a police van and a truck.
Four
police personnel including a an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in the van have
remained out of contact while assistant driver of the truck was rescued alive.
According
to Chief of Chitwan District Police Office, Deepak Thapa, the landslide had
buried the police van (Na 1 Jha 93) and the truck (Na 5 Kha 7827) at around
1.05 am last night. The van was buried and truck plunged into the River, Thapa
added.
Along
the van, Assistant Sub Inspector at Area Police Office, Muglin, Nischal Tamang
and other three cops, Deepak Kumar Maskey, Sandeep Karki and Lil Bahadur
Chepang, have been disappeared in the landslide, Thapa added.
Some
parts of the truck are visible in the river. Assistant driver of the truck was
rescued and rushed to Tanahun for treatment, Thapa informed.
The
police squad had reached to Kalikhola at around 9.40 last night to clear the
debris of landslide which was continually occurring.
The
landslide had taken place at Charkilo no sooner the debris at Kalikhola was
removed. The landslide suddenly buried the police van when the squad was on the
way back to Muglin after it seemed impossible to remove landslide debris at
Charkilo in the night, informed Engineer of Narayangarch-Muglin Road Section,
Shiva Khanal.
Chief
District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhatta, District Police Chief Thapa and chiefs
of security forces in Chitwan had reached the site immediately after the
incident.
The
serpentine queue of vehicle is seen along both sides of the road. There is
mounting pressure of vehicles in the night when the construction works are being
carried out by halting vehicular movement in the day time.
