01- NRNA to set up investment fund
Kathmandu, Jan
31 (RSS): The Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) is to set up an
investment fund of Rs 10 billion for promoting investment in Nepal.
NRNA president
Bhawan Bhatta gave out this information at a discussion programme between NRNA
Nepal and the Society of Economic Journalists of Nepal (SEJON) here on Tuesday.
Bhatta said the
fund is being established for infrastructure development of investment
promotion.
Stating that
discussions were underway with the government bodies for setting up the fund,
the NRNA president stressed that now was the time to work and not talk. NRNA is
constructing the Laprak Model Settlement in Laprak of Gorkha. The settlement
was destroyed by the Gorkha Earthquake of April 25, 2015. A total of 327 houses
are being reconstructed in Laprak.
On the occasion,
NRNA spokesman Bhusan Ghimire informed about the works carried out so far by
NRNA. The Association is also constructing a park on 32 ropanis land on the
bank of the Bagmati river at Shankhamul at an estimated cost of Rs 22.5
million.

02- Dharmakaya Buddha Mandala being
constructed at Kanhudanda
Pokhara, Jan 31
(RSS): A Dharmakaya Buddha Mandala is under construction at Kanhudanda of
Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City.
A mandala is a
spiritual and ritual symbol representing the universe in Hinduism and Buddhism.
It is being constructed on 178 ropanis area of land at Pokhara Lekhnath
Metropolitan City -11 at an estimated cost of seven billion rupees.
A big statue of
the Buddha is also to be placed at the mandala depicting all aspects of
Buddha's life.
Secretary of the
mandala construction committee, Raj Bahadur Gurung, said that the construction
of the mandala would help enhance the tourism attraction in Pokhara. According
to him, the objective is to attract a large number of religious tourists to
Pokhara, besides other visitors.
The local
Dharapani Community Forest Users Committee has provided 170 ropanis land for
the construction of the mandala. Additional two ropanis land had been donated
by locals.
A team from the
Sahara Club, UK and Hong Kong inspected the construction site on Tuesday. The
team comprised Sahara Club, UK president Meen Gurung (Sainla), Sahara Club Hong
Kong president Deepak Gurung, the Diamond Buddhist Centre, UK president Yogesh
Gurung and BCC UK, Mothers' Group chairperson Pushpa Gurung, among others.
The team members
expressed that construction of the Dharmakaya Buddha Mandala would go a long
way in promoting tourism and pledged support on behalf their respective
organisations in its construction.
Meanwhile,
various organisations and individuals have contributed money for the
construction of the mandala. The Diamond Buddhist Centre, UK has provided Rs
314 thousand 114, Centre president Yogesh Gurung Rs 111 thousand 111, Buddhi
Bahadur Gurung, a UK resident, Rs 111 thousand 111 and Ayee Bahadur Gurung and
Mrs Durga Gurung, both residents of UK, Rs 100 thousand 500.
Similarly,
Sahara UK president Meen Bahadur Gurung (Sainla) and Mrs Sarada Gurung have
contributed Rs 100 thousand, Sahara Club UK advisor Chandra Bahadur Gurung Rs
101 thousand, Jas Bahadur Gurung Rs 101 thousand 101 and Hari Shrestha Rs 50
thousand.
On the occasion,
chairperson of the mandala construction committee Rudra Kumari Gurung (Maina)
thanked all those who provided the monetary and other assistance for the
construction of the mandala.

03- Security officials of Nepal and India
agree to curb cross-border crime
Darchula, Jan 31
(RSS): The security authorities of Nepal and India have agreed to prevent
cross-border crime and crimes that take place along the Nepal-India border in
the district.
The officials of
both countries reached the agreement at a joint security meeting held at
Jauljibi, India on Tuesday. The Indian Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB)'s 55th
Battalion organised the joint meeting.
"We have
agreed to work in tandem and exchange information for stopping the cross-border
smuggling, arms smuggling human trafficking, drug trafficking and smuggling of
wildlife parts and trophies, among other criminal activities," Deputy
Superintendent at the District Police Office, Janak Bahadur Shahi, said.
SSB 55th
Battalion based at Jauljibi is guarding the 85 kilometres long border from
Darchula to Baitadi district, according to DSP Shahi.
Assistant Chief
District Officer of Darchula, Shiva Raj Joshi said the joint meeting's decision
would be effective in curbing cross-border crimes and other criminal activities
along the Nepal-India border in the district.
Assistant CDO
Joshi, DSP Shahi, investigation officer Birendra Karki and officiating chief of
the Armed Police Force (APF) border security company of Darchula, Bikas Thapa,
participated in the meeting from Nepal while the Indian side was led by SSB 55th
Battalion commander RC Ghosh.

04- Prakash Sardar claimed shortest person
in Nepal
Pathari, Morang,
Jan 31 (RSS): Twenty one years old Prakash Sardar of Baijnathpur Nahartol,
Biratnagar Metropolitan City- 19 has been identified as the shortest person in
the country. He is 31 inches tall and weighs 13 kilogrammes.
Family members
of Prakash made this claim based on the results derived from a Google search.
They said that when searching on the Google search engine regarding the height
of shortest persons in Nepal, Prakash was found to be the shortest.
The mayor of
Biratnagar Metropolitan City, Bhim Parajuli met Sardar at his house on Tuesday
and said that the metropolis would provide monthly allowance of Rs 3,000 to
Prakash and persons of his ilk, from its internal sources.
On Monday alone,
19-year-old Malati Rishidev of Sundar Haraincha Municipality in Morang district
was claimed to be probably the shortest person in the country. Rishidev is 32

05- Driver killed in tractor mishap
Lahan, Jan 31
(RSS): A person was killed when the tractor he was driving overturned at
Banthiya of Arnama rural municipality in Siraha district last night.
The
deceased is 17-year-old Jitendra Mandal of Arnama Rural Municipality-4. He died
on the spot when the tractor (Sa 1 Ta 5137) overturned due to imbalance, police
said.

06- Woman drowned in pond
Gaushala, Jan 31
(RSS): A woman drowned in a pond at Ekdara rural municipality of Mahottari
district on Tuesday. She is 60-year-old Shantidevi Bhandari of Ekdara Rural
Municipality-2.
A physically
disabled person, Bhandari was found drowned in the pond in the forest nearby
the settlement, police said.
It is said that
Bhandari had gone to the forest to attend nature's call and she might have
fallen into the pond while cleaning. The body has been taken to the Mhottari
District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

07- Whereabouts of schoolboy missing in
Phulchoki still not clear
Lalitpur, Jan 31 (RSS): A schoolboy who
went missing while hiking around Phulchoki hill has not been found even after a
week of the incident.
Seventeen years old John Tamang who
studies at Ajaya Shiksha Sadan at local Thasikhel has gone missing since
Thursday, January 25.
Spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police
Range, Lalitpur, Deputy Superintendent Narendra Chand said all the three
security bodies – Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and Nepal Army – were
searching for the missing boy.
The parents, family members and
relatives of the Tamang and the Private and Boarding Schools Organisation of
Nepal (PABSON) as well as the guardians' organisations had searched for the
missing boy in the villages around Godavari.
School principal Durga Bahadur Oli had
taken 11 students including Tamang for hiking in Phulchoki on Thursday. Oli
informed Tamang's parents after he was not found until evening that day.
According to Bharat Rai, one of the Tamangs'
relatives, said that Oli had informed John's parents that he had been bothering
him and he would return home the next day. "It is not clear why the school
principal said that John would come home the next day," Rai said. The
family members of the missing boy have blamed John's missing on the principal's
negligence and have demanded action against him.
"On the one hand, he (the
principal) has made the students walk for 24 kilometres while on the other hand
he has not told us how the incident happened," Rai said. The Tamangs'
relatives have said that the principal and the other students who went hiking
together with him have different versions of the incident. The Tamang family
has been exerting pressure for finding the status of the missing schoolboy.

08- Man donates over Rs 2 million to alma mater
Gulmi,
Jan 31 (RSS): Ghanshyam Sharma has donated two million five thousand one rupees
to his alma mater, the Tribhuvan Secondary School at Gulmi.
Sharma
hails from Bhuwachidi, Kurgha, Musikot Municipality-6 and is currently living
in Chitwan. Presently Sharma is based in Belgium where he works.
He
donated the amount for setting up a scholarship fund for the meritorious
students from poor economic background families at the school and for
construction of a meeting hall to the memory of his mother, the late Diladevi
Sharma Pangeni, according to the school management committee.
The
school is celebrating its golden jubilee on February 15.
