01- Butwal
carves out plan for urban development
Butwal, July 16: The first meeting of the Butwal Sub Metropolis'
Executive Council took the decision to take effective steps to resolve the
problems of unmanaged settlement in Butwal.
The meeting held on Saturday took a host of decision including
formation of a taskforce for preparation of an archive on the settlement,
systematic research and steps to protect the public land property.
A group of experts will be formed under the coordination of urban
planner, Sushil Gyawali, for a master plan for integrated extensive urban
development.
Butwal Sub Metropolis Spokesperson, Ram Prasad Regmi, added that
another taskforce comprising the head of district's drinking water and
sanitation division and drinking water corporation will be formed under the
coordination of Deputy Mayor Gumadevi Acharya to resolve the drinking water

02- Kailali
records seven deaths from snakebite in three months
Kailali, July 16: Seven persons have died in the period of past
three months from snakebite here in the district.
Three persons died in course of treatment whereas four died while
being rushed to hospital after snakebite, according to Seti Zonal Hospital
Emergency Ward In – charge, Krishna Bohara.
Bohara added that the continuing age old practice in the remotest
parts of seeking the help of shamans in the case of snakebite is also a reason
for death.
A total of 215 persons suffering snakebites had arrived in Seti
Zonal Hospital last year. In only just three months this year, there were 68
persons seeking treatment for snakebites.
Last year seven persons were killed from snakebite whereas the same
number of deaths has been recorded in the first three months of this year.
Bohara has advised the locals to take precaution when travelling
during the night and to seek medical treatment in time rather than visiting the
shamans. RSS

03- Regmi elected head of RCCI's new executive committee
Ratnanagar
(Chitwan), July 16: Ratnanagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI),
Chitwan's 8th Convention has elected a new executive committee under the
leadership of Rajaram Regmi.
The Convention,
which kicked off on July 10, plunged into a dispute over amending the statute
following which a decision was taken on Saturday to form a new working
committee for three years. Regmi added that all the members of the working
committee were elected unopposed.
RCCI immediate
past Chair, Gyan Bahadur Bisural, said the convention elected 18 members
unopposed. RSS

04- Two killed, three missing after flood enters settlement
Charikot, July
16: Two persons were killed and three are reported missing after a flood barged
through a settlement located at the border of Khimti and Pharpu villages of
Ramechap district last night.
According to
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Kumod Dhungel, of the District Police
Office, Ramechap, the mortal remains of 75 – year – old Bal Kumari Khatri of
Likhu rural municipality – 7 and a body of an unidentified person were
recovered in the flooded area. Six other villagers have been injured and are
waiting to be airlifted to safety.
The flood has
also swept away a bridge over the Chatibane river along the Khimti – Pharpu
route. Two houses near the bridge were also swept away. The incessant downpour
from Saturday morning caused the river to swell and the flood struck after 10
am.
The flood also
entered a marketplace from the northern section of Khahare bridge of Khimti
Bazaar, locals say.
The authorities
had tried to rescue the stranded villagers on the same night but could not
reach the site due to obstructions along the road. The police arrived in the
morning and are searching for the villagers, DSP Dhungel shared further.
Chief District
Officer (CDO), Surya Bahadur Khatri, said all three security bodies have been
mobilized for rescue operation. Eight years ago, flashfloods had killed eight
villagers in Khimti. RSS

05- Students launch hunger strike against hike in fees
Itahari, July
16: Two student unions at the Eastern Region Engineering Campus have protested
the decision of the engineering research institute of the Tribhuvan University
to hike fees by 70 per cent.

Students
associated with Nepal Students' Union (NSU) and All Nepal National Independent
Students' Union (Revolutionary) have launched hunger strike demanding the
immediate withdrawal of the decision taken without students' consent to hike
fees.
NSU's Vice
President, Saroj Adhikari, and Revolutionary's Vice Chair, Krishnaraj Neupane,
have launched the hunger strike. RSS

06- Teenager killed, another injured in bike – bus collision
Bhaktapur, July
16: A person was killed and another injured in a collision involving a
motorbike and a bus at Ghathaghar of Madhyapur Thimi municipality last night.
17 – year – old
bike rider, Ashim Shrestha, of Bangalamukhi of Lalitpur died in course of treatment
following the accident while pillion rider, Iku Joshi, was seriously injured.
She is undergoing treatment at the B & B Hospital, Gwarko.
The bus driver
Ram Kumar Mahat is under custody at the Metropolitan Police Circle Thimi, said
Sub Inspector Bikal Bhattarai of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD).
The bus (Ba 4
Kha 1991) en route to Kathmandu from Bhaktapur had collided with the bike (Ba
85 Pa 9928) heading towards Bhaktapur at Ghathaghar intersection along the

07- 7th World Buddhist Summit in the offing
Kathmandu, July
16: The 7th World Buddhist Summit is being held from November 2 to 7 at the
initiative of the Sri Lankan government.
The event is
taking place at a time when the world is grappling with the threat of terror
and uncertainty. It aims to succeed in propagating the sense of kindness and
compassion in all sentinels, according to statement issued by Dr Kyuse
Enshinjoh, the supreme advisor to the Summit. RSS
