01- Bright Market to employ visually
impaired citizens
Pokhara, Aug
18: The Ujyaalo Academy Nepal on Thursday set up a Bright Market at the
Siddhartha Mini Market at Chipledhunga of Pokhara to provide employment for the
visually impaired and physically disabled citizens.
The market was established with an aim to make visually impaired
persons self – dependent through entrepreneurship and commercial ventures and
provide them an opportunity for self – employment, Academy's Publicity
Coordinator, Sirkant Sapkota said.
The organization has also taken an aim of proving that the visually
impaired can also become citizens by breaking away with the stereotype and use
their knowledge and skills with support and trust from the family and the
society.
In the first phase, 15
visually impaired persons and one with physical disability will be employed at
a restaurant, grocery store, cosmetics store, fruit and vegetable shop and
boutique. The Academy plans to employ 21 visually impaired persons by taking on
lease three shutters. RSS

02- Army
provides cost-free meal to flood-stricken
Rajbiraj, Aug 18: The Nepal Army (NA) on Thursday provided free
meals to the flood –stricken at Deuri Bharuwa of Rajbiraj – 15, Saptari.
Around a thousand villagers struck by flooding in the Khando river
received sets of rice, pulses and vegetables as part of the meal programme
organized with support from the District Red Cross Society, Saptari.
The NA's Krishnadal Battalion provided the meal to the victims of
flood in the area and also ran cost-free health camp.
NA's Krishnadal Battalion's Major, Surendra Dev Bogati, said 410
locals were treated at the health camp. At the camp set up with support of the
District Public Health Office (DPHO), a team of six doctors were involved in
the health check-up while medicines were distributed for free. RSS

03- Manju
receives financial support from Nepali diaspora in Hong Kong
Urlabari (Morang), Aug 18: The Urlabari Family, Hong Kong has
extended financial assistance to a 27 – year – old woman of Uralbari – 6
suffering from kidney failure.

Manju Dhimal
was provided Rs 281,000 for treatment of both of her failed kidneys. The money
was raised among the members of the Nepali diaspora in Hong Kong and handed
over on Thursday to the Dhimal family.
Urlabari Family
Hong Kong Chairman, Bikash Limbu, handed over the money to Manju's mother,
Helen Dhimal.
Manju Dhimal
Save Campaign member and Media Club Urlabari's Chairman, Dhan Shyam Bhandari,
said a total of Rs 900,000 has been raised so far from various donors for
Manju's treatment.
Manju has two
children and comes from poor economic background. She is currently receiving
treatment at the Human Organ Transplant Centre, Bhaktapur. RSS

04- Information sought from all 744 local
tiers

Kathmandu, Aug
18: The campaigners of the Right to Information (RTI) have simultaneously
demanded information on activities and organizational frameworks in the 744
local units spread across the country.
Coinciding with
the National Information Rights Day, the Freedom Forum – which has been
campaigning for freedom and RTI – will be spearheading the campaign on Thursday
and Friday to seek information from all 744 local units.
Freedom Forum's
Executive Chief, Taranath Dahal, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) former
President and Forum's General Secretary, Dharmendra Jha, senior Prof Hari Binod
Adhikari, advocate Ram Maya Lamichane, social worker and Forum's Treasurer,
Kedar Dahal, journalist, Krishna Sapkota, and RTI campaigner, Kumar Chaulagain,
have filed a postal application demanding verified copy of the information and
details as per Article 27 of the Nepal's Constitution 2072, and Section 3 and
Section 7(1) of Right to Information Act, 2064.
The information
has been sought, according to Dahal, so as to facilitate the transparency and
accountability of the local government.
Forum's General
Secretary Jha said the information was sought with the executive council
offices of the local levels across the country with the hope of creating an
environment of trust with the local government and to seek constructive
participation of the civilians.
Journalist
Sapkota underlined information has a significant tool in promoting good
governance and added that the demand for information was made for upholding
national and international exercises on RTI, good governance, development, and
mindful of the importance of RTI in Nepal.

He also noted
that the Act stipulates the presence of an information official in each of the
local units.
Sapkota
elaborated further that demands were made for information on whether an
information official has been appointed; whether the council offices will
disclose information on 20 different topics in every three months as required
by the RTI Act, 2064; whether a public hearing will take place as for Good
Governance Act, 2064 and to know if a directive, policy or by laws have been
formulated for information management.
The RTI
campaigners have also demanded information if there has been arrangement for
citizens' charter at the concerned offices and whether websites have been
developed. It has sought property details of elected officials and staffers,
allocation of budget on construction, import and service – oriented adverts and
policies formulated on advertisement.
The demands
include information on placement of hoarding boards for transparency of plans
and laws, and policy-based structure on securing people's participation in
concerned council offices' activities.
The application
of the demand for information has also been notified to the National
Information Commission (NIC). RSS

05- One-horned rhino rescued unharmed from
Indian village
Ratnanagar
(Chitwan), Aug 18: The rare one-horned rhino which was swept by a swollen river
to India has been rescued unharmed.
The female
rhino of estimated two and a half years was rescued yesterday and brought home
to Chitwan Naitonal Park (CNP) on a truck today, Information Official and
Assistant Conservation Official, Nurendra Aryal confirmed.
The rhino was
swept away by the flood and transported 42 km south at the Nepal – India
border. It was found at the Bagaha area of India and rescued with support of
information provided by the Indian officials. The rhino was found in midst of a
sugarcane field in a village.
Meanwhile, CNP
has stated that the recent flooding in the rivers has swept away at least five
other rhinos. One of the rhinos was spotted heading towards Nepal – India
border near the Balmiki Ashram whereas another was spotted in a forest near the
Balmiki town along the Narayani river. Another missing rhino has been spotted
at the Buffer Zone Forest in India. RSS

06- Feverish man seeking shamanic healing
found dead
Solukhumbu, Aug
18: A 48 – year – old man from Dudhkausikha rural municipality – 2 in
Solukhumbu was found dead on Thursday evening.

Rajendra Basnet, who was slightly ill, had left home in the morning
for a visit to a shaman for treatment, according to Inspector, Pradhumna
Adhikari, of District Police Office, Solukhumbu. He was found dead at
Dudhkausika – 5 in the evening.
Police suspect that he died after tripping over. His body has been
taken to the District Hospital Phaplu for an autopsy report. RSS

and Liberia establish diplomatic relations
Kathmandu, Aug 18: Nepal and Liberia have established formal bilateral
diplomatic relations expanding Nepal's bilateral relations to 150 countries
across the globe.
Ambassador Durga Prasad Bhattarai, Permanent Representative of
Nepal to the United Nations and Ambassador Lewis G Brown, Permanent
Representative of the Republic of Liberia to the UN, signed a Joint Communiqué
to the effect in New York, USA.
The two ambassadors also jointly informed UN Secretary – General,
António Guterres, on the establishment of Nepal – Liberia diplomatic relations
today, according to Nepali the mission. RSS

– year – old girl's murderer arrested from Haryana
Bhimdattanagar, Aug 18: A fugitive convicted of murdering a 10 –
year – old girl from Matena of Bhimdatta municipality – 9 was arrested from
Haryana of India.
Hira Singh Airi, 30, who killed Shital Bista by strangling her to
death on August 6, was arrested from India.
A police team from District Police Office, Kanchanpur led by Sub
Inspector, Mahadev Bhatta, took under control Airi from a room rented by his relatives
in Haryana.
Airi has confessed to killing the girl by strangling her. He was
made public on Thursday afternoon amidst a press conference held at the
District Police Office.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Prakash Bahadur Chand, said Airi,
who was drunk at the time of murder, ran away after throwing the girl's dead
body in the nearby river. The police broadened its investigation after an
autopsy report and an inquest. RSS

09- Septuagenarian drowns in a pond
Chitwan, Aug
18: An elderly citizen drowned in a pond last night at Madi area of the
district.
75 – year – old
Sita Ram Mahato of Madi municipality – 3 drowned in a pond near his residence,
District Police Office, Chitwan said. His body was found in the pond this

10- Pedestrian killed in hit – and – run
accident
Surunga
(Jhapa), Aug 18: A male pedestrian was killed last night after getting rammed
by an unidentified vehicle at Kankai municipality – 8 along the East – West
Highway.
The man of
estimated 60 years of age was seriously injured in the accident and died on the
way to B & C Hospital at Birtamode for treatment, said District Traffic
Police Office, Jhapa.
The local
authorities are trying to establish the identity of the man and the vehicle
involved in the accident. RSS
