Mechi-Mahakali campaign successful: Chair Oli

Bhimdattanagar, March 17: CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli today said the party has successfully concluded the Mechi – Mahakali Campaign.
At a press meet held to announce the conclusion of the campaign at Bhimdattanagar this morning, leader Oli said the party was overwhelmed and glad to see active, enthusiastic and spontaneous participation of the people in the campaign. He thanked the mass for their participation and support during the campaign.
The former Prime Minister said the incumbent government in the past seven months has done nothing noticeable except for announcing the date for local polls.
"Efforts are on in one or other form to foil the election," he said, adding "The government is being used wrongly. The Prime Minister is in the mood for increasing the number of local levels just to appease particular people."
Meanwhile, Oli also issued a separate press statement incorporating the overall issues of the campaign.
In the statement, he called on the Indian side not to hurt the sentiments of Nepali nationals through border encroachment and by showing the superior feelings towards them.
Demanding that the Indian side apologise for the Kanchanpur incident in which Govinda Gautam of Punarbas, Kanchanpur lost his life to shot fired from the Indian Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) a few days ago, Oli has sought action against the guilty.

The party has handed a cheque of Rs 50,000 to local, Tikaram Chapagain, who was injured in the incident to assist in his medical treatment. The monetary aid was provided on behalf of the party itself. Likewise, party Chair Oli Thursday handed a cash amount of Rs 500,000 and a laptop to the family of Gautam as a form of respect to the bereaved family.
The campaign that had begun from Kakarvitta of Jhapa with the theme of "Constitution Implementation, Election, Prosperity and Sovereignty: Mechi Mahakali Camapaign  for Social Goodwill and  National Unity" concluded Thursday after reaching Mahendranagar of Kanchanpur.
"The Mechi-Mahakali Campaign is not just the party's campaign, rather it is a national campaign. The party is committed to capitalizing on social and moral support it received during the campaign and to its maximum utilisation in nation building efforts and the enforcement of the constitution in the days ahead," Oli said in the statement.
The party on the other hand has expressed its grief and concern that the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) cadres were used by separatist and violent forces as a tool against party's campaign in Rajbiraj.

Demanding the formulation of necessary election-related laws,  an immediate formation of the Electoral Constituency Fixation Commission, introduction of the  action plan on the  elections of provincial assembly and House of Representatives, withdrawal of  the constitution amendment bill and confusions hovering over elections, the party has urged one and all for support in nudging the country forward on the course of elections.
