Beni (Myagdi), March 20: A museum honouring the recipient of the Victoria Cross and social worker late Tul Bahadur Pun will be built in his birthplace of Taplang in Begkhola, Myagdi.
The museum will feature medals, uniform and clothes and other
items chronicling his life and exploits in war as well as childhood days, his
elder son, Arjun Tilija Pun said.
The Pun family had recently donated a ropani of land purchased
at a cost of Rs 1.5 million near Kalika Elementary School and handed it over to
the school management. The museum is being built over the same land with
commitment of support coming from the Pun family itself, their kin and
well-wishers.
The total cost of building the museum is estimated to range from
Rs 4 to 6 million. Late Pun worked as an employee of the British government and
a political activist after his retirement from the British army.
He had lobbied for British government's support and extended his
own personal and institutional support for education, health, development and
drinking water access in the alpine areas of Nepal.
The museum will be located along the Beni – Jomsom road stretch
allowing domestic and external tourists an opportunity to know about social
contribution and war exploits of Pun, who was decorated with the highest honour
of the United Kingdom. RSS
