Rolpa, March 19: The Nepali Congress' Rolpa leadership has received a grand welcome from the locals of Thawang, the place of origin of the decade – long Maoist insurgency.
Congress leadership
entered for the first time after the insurgency in Thawang, where the presence
of other political parties has been next to nothing. The NC Rolpa
representatives were greeted with a musical troupe and garlands.
The locals also called on
the NC leadership to take the initiative to expedite the development activities
in Thawang, according to NC Rolpa President, Amarsingh Pun. An interactive programme was also held
between the local political parties' representatives and the locals for
Thawang's development, it is learnt.
The NC – Rolpa is set to
make public its Thawang Declaration Paper today, Nepal Press Union
representative, Tej Kumari Bista said. The NC team will head to Rolpa's tourist
destination of Jaljalla to study its civilization.
Thawang, which gave all
the votes to incumbent Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal during the Constituent
Assembly elections in 2008, did not vote during the second CA elections in
2013.
Congress had been holding
mobile meetings outside of the Rolpa's district headquarters every five months,
but this time it decided to enter Thawang. RSS
